Standard aluminum with steel hangers pits and stains on the Atlantic Avenue and oceanfront station rows, so we install 6-inch seamless aluminum with stainless hangers and marine-grade fasteners and skip the steel entirely. On an elevated house by station number, a downspout that ends at the piling line dumps water onto the parking pad and the storage under the house, so we run the downspouts to grade and away from the pilings. The ocean rows from Station 18 to Station 32 get the full salt spec on every hanger and screw; the Intracoastal side and the Fort Moultrie end under the oaks get the same aluminum trough but the debris problem is leaves and moss, so the guard matters more than the hanger. We do not sell the oceanfront spec to a house that does not need it, and the estimate names which side your house is on.

Does my Sullivan's Island roof replacement need Design Review Board approval?
It can. The Town of Sullivan's Island created its Design Review Board in 2003 to review exterior work in the historic overlay districts, and Town Council adopted updated Design Review Guidelines on May 20, 2025. For historic properties, the application has to show the roofing material along with the other exterior materials. The Town recommends a pre-application meeting with Planning staff before anything goes to the board. We confirm from your parcel whether the overlay applies, then prepare the DRB application and the Town building permit together.
Do I need 6-inch gutters?
On the coast, yes. Rainfall intensity here overwhelms 5-inch gutters on most roof pitches.
Do guards actually work with live oaks?
