Gutters in Johns Island

The oak canopy over the older Johns Island lots drops leaves and moss year-round, and the long single-story runs on a farmhouse or ranch off Brownswood Road mean one clogged downspout backs up forty feet of gutter. We install 6-inch seamless aluminum with micro-mesh guards as standard on those lots.

In the newer subdivisions along Maybank Highway, Stonoview and Whitney Lake two-stories usually need the 5-inch builder gutters upsized for the roof area, and the marsh-front streets nearest the Stono need downspout extensions that carry water away from the slab, because the ground there does not drain fast.

On the farms and acreage off Brownswood and Cane Slash, the gutter question includes every roof on the property. A barn that sheds toward the house keeps the crawlspace wet no matter how the house is guttered, and a carport tied into the main roof needs its own downspout. We look at where the water on the whole lot ends up, and quote the house and the outbuildings as separate lines.

On septic lots off Brownswood, Grimball and Cane Slash, where the downspouts discharge is not a cosmetic question. Roof water dumped onto or uphill of a drain field saturates it and shortens its life, so the install routes discharge away from the field and the tank lid, to ground that drains, and we ask where the field is before a single downspout is placed.
